Farewell to Rev. Derek and Joanna Punchard
Today we say goodbye to Rev Derek and Mrs Joanna Punchard as they move from Northampton to Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire. Derek and Joanna first came to Church on the Heath in the 2nd half of 2018 after an introduction from Rev Colin Pye, who was then one of the Regional Ministers for the Central Baptist Association. We were looking to strengthen the Baptist side of COTH, and in due course we appointed Derek as Honorary Associate Baptist Pastor. Derek and Joanna serve

Fourth Sunday of Advent: The Gift of Love
Today we light the fourth candle—the candle of Love. As we draw closer to Christmas, we reflect on the greatest act of love the world has ever known: God becoming one of us. Our sermon focus comes from Luke 2, where we see love in its humblest form: "Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." (Luke 2:11-12) Love didn’t arrive with a grand para

Third Sunday of Advent: Overflowing with Joy!
Today we light the third candle—the candle of Joy! This Sunday is often called Gaudete Sunday (Rejoice!), and we celebrate the deep, resilient joy that comes from knowing Christ. Today, we're holding our Christingle service! The Christingle (Orange) reminds us that Jesus is the light of the world, and our joy is complete in Him. The light we hold represents the good news—the light that shines even in the darkness, as described in John 1:5! This Advent, we are not just waiting

Second Sunday of Advent: A Peace That Endures
Today we light the second candle of Advent, focusing our hearts on the theme of Peace! The sermon verses from Matthew 24:1-14 and 24:29-31 speak of a world filled with trouble and upheaval before the glorious return of the Son of Man. Why focus on peace amidst warnings of war and distress? Because true peace isn't the absence of conflict, but the presence of Christ! The signs of the times are a call to wake up, proclaim the Gospel, and hold fast to the ultimate peace that wil

🌟 First Sunday of Advent: The Dawn of Hope! 🕯️
It's the First Sunday of Advent! Our focus is on Hope, anchored in the ancient promise of Micah 5:2-5a. Micah reminds us that from the small town of Bethlehem, a Ruler will come, whose origins are ancient, and who will be our peace. This unexpected promise is the bedrock of our Christmas hope! How are you holding onto hope this Advent season, especially when things feel small or challenging? Share a single word or a short prayer of hope in the comments below! Let's encourage

Our Church Reflects - Autumn of Our Lives - Pat
During Covid 2020 George, my husband and I used to listen to sermons from All Soul’s Langham Place, as well as our own Church on the Heath services on zoom. One part of a message stayed in my mind and got written in my journal. It was the third point, titled FINISHED WELL. As I was then 82, it was particularly relevant to me. It was based on the verses in Acts 20 verses 22-24 Here is verse 24 “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and

Our Church Reflects - Let Them Pray - Sue
Whenever I'm asked for a favourite verse I find it very hard to think of one. My favourite verse is always the one I've learned something from most recently, and this week that's James chapter 5 verse 13. 'Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray ..." We learned this in Kings Kids recently and it made me think how often as children we find ourselves 'in trouble'. Can we really pray when we're in trouble? It's not the time we're usually feeling most prayerful - when we're

Crafting in Fellowship: Many Hands, One Body!
Take a look at these wonderful moments from our recent crafting session during one of our regular coffee mornings! It's truly inspiring to see the beautiful creations our talented members are working on, each piece a unique reflection of the gifts God has given us. This spirit of creation reminds us of the scripture: "so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us..
