Restoration Begins: A New Chapter for St Augustine’s on Church Green

If you’ve walked past Church Green recently, you may have spotted a very welcome sight: security fencing has officially gone up around the St Augustine’s building.
After many delays that have gone on far too long, we are thrilled to share that renovation work is finally underway.
For over 20 years, St Augustine’s has stood quiet. Now, a comprehensive restoration project will bring this wonderful building back to life as a vibrant hub for the whole community.
What’s Happening?
While much of the restoration will focus on transforming the interior, key external improvements are also taking place:
Roof Repairs: Essential structural repairs will ensure the building remains protected and preserved for decades to come.
Inclusive Access: A new ramp will be installed at the front of the building, ensuring smooth, accessible entry for everyone in our community.
A Versatile Community Hub: Once complete, St Augustine’s will host a dedicated worship space, a versatile hall for local activities and events, and—we hope—a welcoming Community Café open to all.

What to Expect Over the Coming Months
The structural and main restoration work is estimated to take around six months. Following that phase, we’ll be turning our attention to the interior refurbishment—bringing our stored items back home and putting the finishing touches in place to prepare for our grand reopening.
We look forward to keeping you updated as the transformation progresses.
